Hastings County is situated in a unique geographical position to observe these two species in their overlapping breeding habitat. Both species choose to nest in similar habitat, that of secondary growth of low bushes and grasses with a few taller trees for singing perches, near to forest where they will raise their young. Named from Francis Rawdon Hastings, Earl of Moira, aide de camp to Clinton in the American Revolution. Organized as an electoral district in 1892. The front of the county is arable and very fertile and there is a large cheese and butter industry. The Hastings County Historical Society explores and promotes the history of Belleville, Ontario and Hastings County in Eastern Ontario.
